Small power motor? Miniature AC gear motor? These are all in the same range! But how?

In the early days, engineers at Dongfang Motor Corporation faced recurring problems. Customers have many different requirements for the motor and gearbox combination, so that it is very expensive to produce a unique and special motor for each end user every day.

For larger customers, it is easy, cheap, fast, and efficient to build quantities just because of the large number, while for other customers, providing motors for prototype or small batch production can become quite expensive, and for large manufacturers. Words are not feasible.

Faced with this problem, their designers decided to create their own unique AC motor gear train series to fill the gap left by independent manufacturers after long consideration and thinking, and these independent manufacturers need many unique gearboxes. Combined with the motor and in small quantities.

To overcome this design problem, they produced a new style of motor and gearbox with a gear ratio ranging from a fast 3:1 ratio to a slower but higher power 200:1 ratio gearbox, and most The required gearbox combination uses a small AC spur gear motor, selected from 6 watt AC to 200 watt AC. They chose induction, reversible, speed control and electromagnetic brake motors.

In order to distinguish them from other manufacturers' products, they call them the "standard motor" series, although they have also been called "fractional horsepower motors" for many years.

This eliminates the requirements of the purchasing company, which needs to inform and customize the specific specifications of its intended use. Instead, manufacturers can now simply look at the data sheets provided directly by the motor supplier and select the most appropriate combination of motor and gearbox based on the power, motor type, speed and size that best suits their intended design.

As a result, Orient Motors can now offer a range of products that can be manufactured inexpensively, in large quantities, and easily.

The scope has been a huge success because there is no more waiting time at all.

Any company can order any quantity of the product and receive it within a few days without having to wait months to deliver the product.

With the popularity of AC motors, the company quickly moved its development team to the DC series and supplied motors of the same frame size of 12 volts, 24 volts, 36 volts, 48 volts, 90 volts and 180 volts.

Since its inception, the standard motor family has been replicated by many companies for many years and is one of the most popular motors in all small gear AC and DC motors today. It is used in packaging machines, conveyor systems, automatic racking systems, pizza ovens, robots, etc. Today, its use is more than the original designer imagined!

The standard motor series includes AC single phase, three phase and DC, the main models are induction motors, reversible motors, electromagnetic brake motors and speed control motors.

Thanks to the great success since the first sale, there are many replicas of electric motors, some of which make this idea beyond the original design and offer a truly unique combination, including right-angle gearboxes, worm gears and planetary gears or further improvements. By increasing efficiency, others just try to copy as much as possible to the original motor, or copy as much as possible under the constraints of the machine.

Standard motors are available from many different companies and are mainly produced in Japan (Oriental, Panasonic), Taiwan (sesame, GPG motors), Korea (SPG), India and China (listed in detail).

The overall quality of construction can be determined by a number of factors, the most influential factors being: accuracy, efficiency rating, materials used, and the overall capacity and longevity of the manufacturer of the operating equipment.

Among the standard motor families, some of the best brands available today include GPG Automotive, Oriental Motors, SPG, Panasonic, Bison and Maili Titan.

The issues to be aware of when looking for these gear motor combinations for your business!

If you are looking for cheap products in China or India, please know that the original motor is manufactured in two completely different designs!

The original model is a square-shaped model with an active fan and passive radiator housing to provide better cooling efficiency, while the new design is cylindrical in shape, taking advantage of higher precision in the years between design changes. device of.

New designs are much less efficient than older designs, but with higher precision and higher efficiency, cylindrical designs now generate less heat, allowing them to use a smooth housing design. Instead of the old finned casing. Also, admittedly, they look much better.

Although cylindrical models are suitable for manufacturers with high-precision machinery, many Chinese and Indian manufacturers are still trying to replicate newer cylindrical designs directly, even if they are unable to reproduce the same high precision as Japanese/Taiwan manufacturers. / Korean mode can be achieved.

When we first procured our range of motors, in order to prove to ourselves what the results would be, we tested each of the Chinese/Indian motor and gearbox combinations we could purchase (square and cylindrical designs). The first thing we noticed in every newer design release is that testing them is much warmer than previously designed.

This can eventually lead to seal/bearing failures, and the heat generated by the lower part efficiency is far more than the heat that can easily be dissipated by the cylindrical model. This is also related to the original alloy composition used in the manufacture of the casing, but this is far beyond the scope of this article.

When you buy a product from an unknown manufacturer, please serve yourself and try to find an older square design that is cooler and more efficient than the newer cylindrical design. Believe us, you will complain to the customer that the motor is overheated, shut down or burned and saves a lot of trouble.

Another thing you should really realize is the materials and hardening process used in shaft and gearbox design. When we tested, the first thing we saw in many gear motors was the excessive wear of the gearbox helical and spur gears. This makes the equipment very noisy during operation and results in a much shorter life of the motor and gearbox.

We also noticed bearing and seal failures, which are common phenomena when these units are continuously operated for up to 60 days at their rated torque load.

It's a tough market filled with traps and traps, but now, with a little knowledge, you'll be better able to buy motors for personal hobbies or large corporate projects!

good luck!
